My research area is called "Computer Algebra", a still emerging area which deals with exact computations of some mathematical objects, most of the case using algebraic theory (in opposition to "Numerical Analysis", using round-offs and Analysis). I am studying how to manipulate multivariate polynomial systems within computers. The sheer number of monomials and the hugeness of the numbers appearing are serious obstacles to handle even small problems. My investigation is both of theoretical nature, finding good data structures to represent huge polynomial systems, and of practical nature with the design of efficient algorithms.
