概要
Abstract: Defects in crystalline materials are responsible for alterations of physical and mechanical properties of
these media and it is therefore important to study their energetics and their motion.
In this talk, I will introduce dislocations (defects due to the failure of closure of the linear part of the deformation
gradient) and disclinations (defects due to the failure of closure of the angular part of the deformation gradient),
show their energetics, and present the maximal dissipation rule for their dynamics. I will write and comment on the
equations of motion and will showcase some relevant examples that allow us to understand mechanisms such as
collisions and annihilations, and cross- and fine cross-slip. The presentation is complemented by animations from
numerical simulations illustrating some of these situations. Part of this talk is based on: https://cvgmt.sns.it/paper/6744/
