Sutured manifolds are compact oriented 3-manifolds with
boundary, together with a set of dividing curves on the boundary. I will discuss
an invariant called SFH of sutured manifolds that extends the hat version
of both Heegaard Floer homology and knot Floer homology. SFH can be used to
show that knot Floer homology detects the genus and fibredness of a
knot in a direct way, and to study minimal genus Seifert surfaces of a knot.
