概要
Forest mushrooms have important ecological functions in forest ecosystems. In addition, picking the edible ones represent a popular recreation activity and an important commercial income in many regions of the world. The mushrooms fruiting is a complex event and has been the topic of myths and legends of popular tradition in Europe. One of these is the popular belief that mushroom fruiting is influenced by the moon cycle. Although it is scientifically demonstrated that moon cycle has important effects on several biological events, controversy still exists about the moon influence on mushroom fruiting. For the first time in Europe, we have the opportunity to analyse this phenomena on scientifically rigorous basis by mean of the longest database of the forest mushroom fruiting available in Europe. Twenty-two years of continuous monitoring of four selected forest sites at weekly intervals have produced more than 25,000 records, including species identification (more than 1,000 taxa), no. of fruit bodies and dry biomass. All these data can be plot with moon cycle to verify the existence of an eventual moon influence on mushroom fructification. Some tentative of analysis have been carried out both with raw data and including also other variables like precipitation, temperature, moisture, wind. Some results of the work in progress will be shown.
