Abstract: Since more than twenty years we have been evaluating a wide range of optimization software. This effort is far from perfect but still influential. It has been instrumental to the growth of companies and has helped spreading the news of non-commercial software as well. We will sketch the present state of our benchmarking efforts and thus of the available codes as well. Recent developments point to a gradual shift, for example, regarding the class of problems receiving the most attention, or the geographical origin of the software. We will try to address open questions and discuss the directions in which this service should develop in the near future.
