概要
Understanding and predicting materials behaviour is inherently a multi-dimensional problem necessitating characterisation techniques that can probe a large range of different length and timescales. By exploiting advances in nanofabrication, optical techniques, and ultrafast X-ray sources there have been a number of recent breakthroughs reported which have transformed our ability to image both biological and solid-state materials. For the past 10 years my group have been working on a range of inverse problems for analysing data collected from whole engineering components right down to studying the structure and composition of single biological cells. In this talk I will review some of the key advances we have been involved in developing and discuss how these could impact our fundamental understanding of materials and life science behaviour.
