In the talk we are concerned with a model system of the one-dimensional Navier-Stokes-Poisson equations used to describe the ion dynamics when viscosity is taken into account. We establish the existence of smooth traveling waves with small amplitude, and also obtain the nonlinear stability under small smooth perturbations in terms of the classical energy method. In the proof, the main analytical difficulty is to understand the effect of the self-consistent force on the viscous fluid system. This is a joint work with Zhu Zhang.
