I am studying (1) integrable systems and related geometry, and (2)
applied physics with elliptic theta functions as one of the axes.
(1) Integrable systems and related geometry
Integrable systems are a family of equations that can be solved exactly
despite their nonlinearity, and are known to be discretizable while
preserving the structure of the solution. By discretizing an integrable
system that appears in differential geometry, the corresponding curves
and surfaces can also be discretized.
Such discretization is not always easy, but the identity of theta
function can be useful. The theta function can also be used as a guide
in constructing explicit formulas for curves and surfaces, searching for
conserved quantities, and so on, making research like solving a puzzle.
(2) Applied physics
Theta functions appear not only in mathematics, but also in physics. In
particular, I am studying phenomena in the earth sciences. I aim to
contribute not only to the nature of physics, but also to reduce the
cost of experimental research and improve the accuracy of simulations.
