Title:Expectations and possibilities for mathematics in engineering design and manufacturing
 
Abstract:
In recent years, engineering design and manufacturing environment is changing variously. In order to develop products meeting diverse demands of customers, designers are forced to introduce new technologies and new components, which are being made available to designers in various disciplines including mechanics, electrics and software, into product design. In addition, since customers' concern and demand for safety and quality of products are increasing year by year, manufacturing companies are required to be responsible for the product quality and reliability increasingly. Therefore, it is necessary for designers to understand underlying relationships among various data and information about product design and manufacturing, and to make appropriate decisions. I will talk about expectations and possibilities for mathematics as techniques to give solutions to those problems.
