Abstract:
In this talk, I will start with the discussion of basic notions of symbolic dynamics (subshifts of finite type, sofic shifts), and the useful role they play in the study of "smooth" dynamical systems. In the second part of the talk, using an example of a so-called solvable model: spanning trees on ladder graphs, I will describe methods to provide a relatively simple symbolic, as well as algebraic descriptions, of these models (joint work with T. Shirai).
